I typically don’t go for the “damsel in distress” movies... because the women in those films always do something stupid and I wind up sitting there going, “Why did she drop the gun when she tripped? And why did she trip? Why doesn’t she just...?”
Anyway... that was my point of view until I saw the film P2 on Starz. The movie starts out a bit slow with a female executive who is working late on Christmas eve... planning to visit her family. Through a series of misadventures (which at least seem random) she is in the clutches of a crazed madman. At first, you wonder how the plot will actually play out. Not to spoil it... but it seems the protagonist has a chance to cry out for help in the beginning, but instead she goes along with the crazed maniac.
In the end, P2 keeps you glued to the edge of your seat as the lead shows she is no dumb blonde... but a woman who has the balls to take on her captor and redeem herself. It is a satisfying film where the expected clichés and stereotypes are played a bit off-center. I don’t think you will be disappointed if you see this.
