Maybe I Shudda Worn Versace?

I stopped by a local eatery to grab a soup and salad... thought the young lady in line in front of me looked interesting, so I started a conversation by joking, “everything here is good except the milkshakes and smoothies. Stay away...”

With a giggle, she turned to me smiling. Then, as she eyed me, the smile vanished and she looked as if Freddy Krueger was shoving a chainsaw into her face. She nervously spun around and quickly exited the restaurant.

The Royal Treatment

Saw a video on CNN about a café in Japan where Western men bring women tea, give them massages, and treat them like princesses. It is a very popular destination for Japanese women.

Where can I get a job application?

Congratulations

Saturday Night Live’s Chris Kattan just got married to model Sunshine Tutt. Her photo appears below. Details at CNN.

We enjoyed Chris during his run on SNL... as well as his appearances in a number of side-splitting movies. We are happy to see our boy settling down with his pretty wife and wish him all of the success and happiness that life has to offer.

The Chill Pill...

Some days, I wish I played the guitar so that I could sing the blues. There is the “my alarm clock went off but I’m still tired” blues. There is the “traffic sucks” blues. There is the “why can’t I hit powerball and quit this job” blues. So we get stressed out and wonder where the answer is?

I found an answer at AbsoluteCalm. This web site presents a nutritional supplement that will help you to relax.

Absolute Calm is not a drug. There are no harsh chemicals. No narcotics. The man won’t throw you behind bars for taking it. This product is herbal. It is safe. Naturally, you will want to consult your family doctor if you have any condition, are or might become pregnant, or if you are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs.

Containing lecithin, olive oil, and magnolia bark extract… these natural ingredients combine to help you rest and relax from your stressful life. Why come home yelling at your wife, biting the dog, scratching the cat, and spitting into the fish tank when instead you can enjoy Absolute Calm?

By the way, when you log onto the AbsoluteCalm website, a pleasant looking woman with a Carol Brady hairdo will step out (assuming you have Flash) and explain to you in a calming voice all about the benefits of Absolute Calm.

That has me relaxed already!

Gas for 99¢ a Gallon!

I am sure a lot of folks wished they lived in Lafayette, Louisiana this week...

According to Nashville’s NBC affiliate, a car dealer put 4,000 gallons of gas for sale at the low price of 99¢ today. Proceeds will go to charity.

Meanwhile, we saw a CNN Video about $1 gas in Connecticut.

Would be nice if those prices were nationwide, eh?

Maybe people will wear these designer shirts when pumping gas?

Anti-Obama Graffiti

Sixty Orlando Florida city government vehicles were vandalized with graffiti against presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The vandals also left business cards behind critizing both Obama and presumptive Republican candidate John McCain.

The cards did, however, express positive support for Hillary Clinton.

An Orlando television station has a slide show featuring images of the vandalized vehicles.

Paris Hilton?

I went to the local Safeway to grab some Black Truffle Oil and saw this familiar profile. Slim lean frame... tight tiny shorts... belly baring top... long neck... platinum hair.

Is that Paris Hilton?

No way! I mean, what would Paris be doing in Safeway?

My Most Memorable Vacation

Having been to major cities all over the world, from America to Europe to Scandinavia to Asia… it is difficult to say which has been my favorite. However, should I be compelled to choose one as my all-time favorite holiday, I would have to say my visit to New York City has to be the (in the words of Francis Albert Sinatra) A-Number-One.

What is so great about visiting New York. Where do I begin? I was staying in a hotel in Times Square where the energy is at a constant high. I wasn’t so interested in seeing the crowds around the NBC Today Show or the CBS Morning Show… but rather to just enjoy the walk along crowded (and, often, aromatic) streets and enjoy the ambiance of the greatest city on the planet.

What’s so great about New York?

  • It’s a city where you can step out of your hotel room at 3 a.m. and get a great meal.
  • It’s a city where the women are intelligent, beautiful, and fun to hang around with.
  • It’s a city full of great locations to see the sites… many with great historical significance.

What more can I say except, to quote Sinatra again, it’s a city that never sleeps – and insomnia can be a very fun thing when you are hanging out in NYC.

If you have never visited the Big Apple and would like to consider checking out Things to do in New York City. The United States of Unity

The New York Times and other news media has portrayed the grand appearance of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton side by side in a town called Unity. It was certainly a moment of positive energy as 6,000 Democrats cheered at the idea of Barack Obama winning the White House.

Unfortunately, there is a faction of former Hillary supporters, as The Washington Post reports, who aren’t feeling that unity vibe. In fact, they seem to be mad as he**, and not willing to take it any more...

This wave of dissent is headed by former Clinton backers who have blogs and web sites expressing their view of this season as a summer of discontent.

One of the key leaders in this “Hill Yes, O No” movement is Diane Mantouvalos (pictured on the right). These women feel that they will not vote for Obama.

Some will join John McCain and his quest for the 100-year war.

Others plan to write in Hillary Clinton on the ballots during the general election.

I just hope their chads don’t get dimpled. J

In the words of Winnie the Pooh... Oh, bother....

Give Yourself Some Credit

When man first discovered fire, it had to have been one of the greatest discoveries. Food got cooked… cold caves were warmed… and wild animals were chased away. All seemed great… until someone tripped and fell into the fire.

Yowch!

Credit cards can be thought of in the same perspective. They are great tools for tracking your purchases, managing your budget, and even getting frequent flyer miles and/or other awards for using them. All seems great… until you get in over your head and find your credit rating destroyed.

That is why we appreciate sites like CreditCardsClub.com. This site provides you with great articles and other information to make you a more informed consumer. It also allows you to compare cards to make better choices.

If you are already in the credit toilet, this site allows you to find bad credit credit cards that you can use to climb back up into the world of optimal credit.

Bye Bye Billy...

We heard from MSNBC that Bill Gates, the man behind Microsoft, will be stepping down from day-to-day operations at the software giant he co-founded to focus on philanthropic work.

Granted, Bill will not be completely divorced from the company he co-founded. He just won’t wear as many hats with the same level of hands-on attachment he has had since the company started in the late 1970’s.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has done more charitable work than any other modern organization. Granted, that doesn’t match up with the legendary widow’s mite... but Bill seems to have an agenda to tackle some of society’s great problems with his multiple billions of dollars.

Check out the video about Bill Gates’ retirement at MSNBC.

George Carlin with Johnny Carson

Early George Carlin

R.I.P. Ira Tucker

I grew up on gospel music... listening to radio stations WDAS and WHAT back in Philly. And one of the premier groups back in the day was The Dixie Hummingbirds.

We were so sad to read in The New York Times that lead singer Ira Tucker is now performing on the celestial stage.

Tucker was a groundbreaking performer who put true soul into his music. He will be missed.

Additional details at The Associated Press.

Remembering George Carlin

R.I.P. Kermit Love

The man who gave us Big Bird and Snuffelupagus has left the planet at the age of 91. You can read his bio and more at The Gothamist and on Wikipedia.

R.I.P. Dody Goodman

Dody Goodman (1915-2008) was known for many awesome comedic roles... many included her portraying secretaries in films and their sequels:
  • “Blanche” (the principal’s secretary) in Grease and Grease 2
  • Tom Hanks’ absent-minded secretary in Splash and Splash, Too

She also delighted us in roles in Silent Movie, Max Dugan Returns, Private Resort, Cool as Ice, Frozen Assets and Bedtime Story, and a recurring role in the Alvin and the Chipmunk cartoons, including the 1987 feature, The Chipmunk Adventure (as Miss Miller, adopted mother of the Chipettes).

She also performed with our good friend Shavar Ross on the classic sitcom Diff’rent Strokes.

She died June 22nd in Englewood, New Jersey. She will be missed.

She Boom...

It is great to see women advancing in all sectors of society. From my favorite former Hewlett-Packard CEO (Carly Fiorina) to Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. What is disturbing, however, is that women are becoming the newest suicide bombers wreaking havoc in the middle-east.

According to The New York Times, 15 dead and over 40 wounded in Iraq were victims of a woman who hid powerful explosives under her flowing robes. The customs of that part of the world prevent women from being searched as extensively as men -- given the dearth of female police to conduct searches.

Psych

The stars of the USA series Psych do their take on Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. I hope they don’t quit their day jobs.

Gelt Schmart

Would you believe that a feature film remake of a classic television series could actually be funny and enjoyable?

The remake of Get Smart was surprisingly brilliant... filled with sharp one-liners that fly like shrapnel and the awesome physical slapstick that Steve Carrell is so very good at.

Granted, Carrell doesn’t have the one-note delivery of the late Don Adams, but at the very least he transcends his Michael Scott persona and creates a likable character that we will look forward to in the predictable sequel.

The Street Cred Hulk

When you go to see the Incredible Hulk movie... be sure to keep your eyes open (an easier task than in Ang Lee’s insomnia curing version of Hulk).

When Hulk and Abomination and the Army are fighting on the busy street, look out for a surprise cameo appearance by Michael Kenneth Williams, also known as Omar Little from HBO’s late series, The Wire.

If you blink... you might miss him.

But it is good to know that Omar survived the streets of Baltimore -- only to face getting crushed by two hulking monsters!

The Unwed Mother Club

Sometimes, life imitates art. And, as films such as Juno and Knocked Up (and the real-life antics of the Spears kids) suggest... there seems to be some stature of glamor for teens who get pregnant out of wedlock. So much so that a high school found 17 of its coeds trying intentionally to get pregnant.

At least one of those pregnancies resulted from a tryst with a 24-year-old homeless man.

In the article by Time Magazine, Gloucester High School in a fiercely Catholic Massachusetts enclave has a bit of a problem. Teenage girls want to get pregnant… by any means necessary.

Or, perhaps one could say they want to get pregnant in the worst way. And what can be worst than your daughter laying with a homeless dude in some alley just for the purpose of bearing illegitimate offspring?

It seems these girls believe that a baby is something that will love them unconditionally. Well, nothing says lovin’ like screaming at 3 in the ayem to be fed.

And once that baby turns 13, it will be like, “Mom... go away. I’m with my friends. You’re embarrassing me!”

The school’s solution is to prescribe contraceptives without the parents’ consent.

Maybe they might consider another solution (one that starts with expanding the mind and working towards the soul)???

To Print... Perchance... To Publish!

Do you remember those days when you had to go to some little printing press outside town to get business cards or wedding invitations done? The internet has made that process much easier, hasn’t it?

One of the best on-line sites for printing is VistaPrint. Any type of custom printing you can imagine can be obtained there quickly, and for a great price!

I have been looking at some property in beautiful South Beach Miami and may soon be in the market for some moving announcements. VistaPrint has dozens of great designs in a variety of sizes. And, of course, all come with matching envelopes. Classy, right?

But, check this out…

If you are so persnickety that you can’t decide on any of VistaPrint’s wonderful designs… you can upload your own design and even your own photos or images.

Kewl, right?

How many companies out there go so far to make sure you get exactly what you want. And, once you have picked your design and filled in all of the customizations, you get a great quality product that is delivered when and where you want it.

Really?

Yes! When you visit the site, you will see a real-time on-line proof approval applet that allows you the confidence that you are getting exactly what you want.

So, what are you waiting for?

Tiger Takes Five

There was a great deal of speculation regarding Tiger Woods’ knee as he won that last wonderful round of golf... through fingernail biting “sudden death” work that showed Tiger’s brilliance.

On the tail of that great success, according to The New York Times, tiger will have to sit the remainder of this season out to have some reconstructive work done on his knee.

Our prayers that Tiger will get well quickly!

Do they sell walls?
