The Formerly Bionic Woman

Since her NBC series crashed and burned, the former EastEnders star has gone incognito.

Walking about town without makeup and in normal street clothes, and being totally ignored by her former fans!

Worst of all... poor Michelle says that no man seems to want her. What, has she been drinking Jennifer Aniston juice or something?

Give us a call, Shelly. We will give you some of that Dr. Anthony Trueman loving.

Or, not...

Check out the article in The Daily Mail for more words and pictures.

R.I.P. William Gibson

Alabama native William Gibson, celebrated playwright best known for his take on the life of Helen Keller, “The Miracle Worker,” has exited the planet from Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

Ever the biographer, his last play chronicled the life of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.

The Tony winning writer is also the author of numerous other published and broadcast works. Read more about this prolific writer at Reuters and The Associated Press.

Black Friday Shopping

The Horror in India

I was just heading out of town to enjoy Thanksgiving when I caught a CNN newscast about the terror attacks in Mumbai. I have met and worked with a lot of great Indian people and have developed a great respect for that culture. As a nuclear power, the government of India must remain strong and under the control the sane and rational, and not those who would perpetrate such crimes.

Here is a video update:

Astro Boy

I was reminiscing with an old childhood friend about the plethora of Japanese programming we watched while growing up in Philadelphia. We not only had the traditional stations representing NBC, ABC, CBS and PBS... but loads of UHF stations...

  • Channel 17
  • Channel 23
  • Channel 29
  • Channel 48
  • Channel 57

One of our favorite programs was Astro Boy, a space-aged Pinocchio of sorts. Well, with all of the good and (mostly) bad remakes of old programming... perhaps this will be one that they finally get right?

Check out the trailer, below:

Stepping on the Prison Brakes...

If you are a fan of Prison Break... may not want to read this SPOILER:

According to this transcript from an interview, Fox’s Prison Break series will end with the current season.

Of course, it is not set in stone... and season five could conceivably happen...

Even (pure conjecture on our part) if with an entirely new cast...

And Now For Something Completely Different

If you are a screenwriter knackered over attempts at getting round the Hollywood Gate Keepers, there are other options. Try giving Hollywood a miss and shipping a script across the pond.

The BBC is accepting unsolicited scripts from us Yanks... assuming that you have something with a distinctly British element and that meets with specific guidelines.

If you are feeling cheeky and fancy having a go at an opportunity with the BEEB... assuming they ain’t taking the Mick... check out The BBC Writers Room for details. If you post your script and succeed, have your people call my people. We can do elevenses.

And, good luck!

You Know The Economy is Bad When...

When, during Hanukkah, Jewish parents tell their kids, “Go See Santa...”

Fahrenheit 700 Billion

I read the announcement by The Hollywood Reporter about Michael Moore’s next documentary.

This next film will reportedly touch on the global economic problems that are most likely on everyone’s minds. Moore had loads of fun taking jabs at the Bush Administration, but now the eve of the Obama administration, it will be interesting to see what direction(s) this next film takes.

You can read more about it at Reuters UK.

Open Mouth. Change Feet.

When Janet Jackson exposed her breast during a Super Bowl many many moons ago... the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) put out something along the lines of a half-million dollars worth of fines.
When Howard Stern did what Howard does best... the fines that were stacked up against him were astronomical.

Currently, the FCC is discussing mandatory fines for any use of profane language... even if it is out of the control of the host of the program. So, an audience member can shout out a profanity on your show and you get fined.

Bummer...

I wonder how much MSNBC will be fined for Joe Scarborough’s slip of the lip. If you haven’t heard it... it is in the video clip below. But, be careful... it is not for young children, the elderly, or those on psychotropic medications...

Peggy Bundy -- Move Outta da Way!

Actress Katey Sagal rose to fame as the delightfully tacky Peggy Bundy in the show that put the Fox network on the map, Married With Children. Later, she voiced our favorite one-eyed cartoon character (after Popeye, anyway) on Futurama. Now, Katey gets to join Michael Chiklis as a bad-ass cable drama star.

In a new series “Sons of Anarchy” on the bad-ass FX network, Katey plays the bad-ass mother of the leader of a bad-ass motorcycle gang. Ron “Hellboy” Perlman portrays her bad-ass husband.

Should be worth a look-see.

Would you like to Save 25% on Dragon Naturally Speaking with Coupon Code?

Press Release:

Hello my name is Brett Bumeter and I write about Dragon Naturally Speaking at Softduit.com (Tip if you are looking for the details on the coupon codes scroll to the bottom of this article). I wanted to share this video with you showing a fellow blogger named Drew who is using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 for the first time. There are some interesting things that you will see in this video that I wanted to point out to help you get a sense of how Dragon NaturallySpeaking works and how it could potentially work for you.

I think it's important to see Dragon NaturallySpeaking, when people are using it and videos definitely help show you how well the software works these days. It's extremely fast and can help you to type at 150 words per minute. You can see this in the demonstration that Drew has created as he is basically talking at a relatively normal speed. You will notice that he tends to look with his eyes to the right and up just a little bit.

I mention this not because Drew is looking in some strange direction, but instead because Dragon NaturallySpeaking does use your brain in a slightly different way than what you may be used to. You have to think of the words you will say in your head and then speak it out loud. That's a little different than when you think of a composition and type it out with your fingers or even more different than when you attempt to write with your hands using a pen and paper. All three activities use different sections of our brains.

There used to be a time a decade ago when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking was more difficult because it would take a significant amounts of time to train the software. These days, the software can be trained in as little as seven minutes. The out-of- the-box experience with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 is flat-out amazing. That said, it will take you a little bit of time to train your brain or compose messages or articles or e-mails by speaking them out loud.

You can type 150 words a minute using Dragon NaturallySpeaking and that's typically 2 to 3 times faster than your average person can type. 2 to 3 times faster can save you a great deal of time and a great deal of money. This can enable you to spend more time with your family or be more productive at work and get more done and possibly a promotion or raise. Possibly the biggest benefit that you can experience is just staying on top of your workload with less effort.

If you consider also that Drew is looking off to the right a little bit as he's composing, I will share with you a hidden benefit of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. When you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you are not locked into a position physically, where you have to stare at your computer monitor all of the time. When you don't have the light on your computer screen glaring in your face all the time, you experience a great deal less eye strain. The muscles in your eyes can relax more, as you look around the room and change your focal point. You would be amazed at how much extra energy this will give you as your eyes, and the muscles in your eyes don't get worn out as fast as they would if you sit at a computer and type all day long.

We often associate sore hands and fingers and wrists with typing, but typing also creates very sore eyes and can even lead to migraine headaches. Plus, it basically just makes you tired sitting in front of your computer. Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you can save a great deal of time and effort and keep your energy level high, because you're not wearing out your eyes. With a wireless microphone headset like the one I’m using, you can even pace around your desk or exercise on a treadmill or bike machine while you write your emails!

Best regards,
Brett Bumeter

PS I wrote this article with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 preferred. It took me about five minutes to write the words above, which are proximally 670 in length. That's about 130 words per minute typing, and it only took me another minute or two to edit, which is still approximately 95 words per minute with editing included!

Back to SNL for Maya?

Singer, musician and comedienne Maya Rudolph left Saturday Night Live after the 33rd season... making one guest appearance this year to portray First Lady-elect Michelle Obama.

Now that Barack Obama has been elected as our 44th President of the United States, will Maya return full-time to SNL to portray Michelle in future sketches?

We all know that Tina Fey is officially off the hook for portrayals of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, but perhaps Maya will once again get a weekly paycheck from Lorne Michaels? Well... at least, a periodic paycheck...

Obama’s First Oval Office Visit

President-elect Obama spent time with President Bush today at the White House... while Michelle Obama and Laura Bush had private discussions of their own.

According to Los Angeles Times, Obama arrived in presidential style, complete with a fully equipped motorcade.

South Africa’s First Lady of Song has exited this planet the way she always wanted to... on stage.

Miriam Makeba, 76, had just performed her international hit, The Click Song for an audience in Italy when she fainted to the floor and exited the planet.

She was a great talent. She will be missed.

Black Comedy in the Age of Obama

There was an interesting article in today’s Los Angeles Times about how the presidential victory of Barack Obama may affect Black comedy.

Well, Dr. Cosby has railed against buffoonery for quite some time. Perhaps the reality of Obama’s presidential win might change the tune of the def comics.

Then again, maybe it won’t.

You never can tell...

Fox Versus Gale

With the exception of Ang Lee’s insomnia-curing Hulk movie, Marvel Comics has dominated the box office in regard to superhero motion pictures. The Dark Knight series has revitalized Detective Comics (DC) on the big screen -- and the presentation of the femme fatale of the line, Wonder Woman, is big on people’s minds.

We were reading the gossip from Australia that there is some consternation over whether Transformers star Megan Fox or Megan Gale will inherit the golden lasso from Washingtonian Lynda Carter.

Well the IMDB Page for the Wonder Woman movie doesn’t help. Much.

Obama Documentary Coming to HBO

The Hollywood Reporter just reported that HBO has completed a seven-figure deal to produce a biographical film on President-elect Barack Obama.

According to Edward Norton, who will be producing the film through his own production company:

Senator Obama’s history-making race for the White House has given our film a perfect framework to explore the pulse of the country at this vital moment in our history.

Should be interesting...

A Butler Well Served

Amidst all of the hubbub accompanying the historic election of the first African-American man to occupy the Oval Office, there is the story of another Black man who toiled in the bowels of the White House for over three decades... and who had the honor of helping to bring President-elect Obama into office.

89-year-old Eugene Allen began his career as a White House butler at a time when segregation was still in force in the United States.

During the 1950’s and through his retirement during the Reagan administration, the only Black faces one might see in the White House were the mostly unseen and often unappreciated staff. Yet, Gene is proud to have fostered friendships with former presidents and outlived them all to see the dawn of this historic new administration.

Read the full story and check out the photo gallery (with Gene’s narration) at The Washington Post.
