Whenever I see that a movie is subtitled, I tend to back away. I just want to hear the dialogue spoken in English and not bother about reading anything.
But then again, there are some films that just would not be the same dubbed into English. There is a certain ambiance in hearing a character speaking four languages in diverse circumstances. One such film is Paul Veerhoven’s Black Book.
“The expensive and expansive Black Book looks gorgeous, and there's no denying Verhoeven's genuine filmmaking talent...”
The acting is superb... the cinematography is nothing less than breathtaking... and Carice van Houten is breathtakingly beautiful. And, yes, she does her own singing.
If you haven’t seen Black Book, rent or buy this movie today!
