Saxophone Takes Center Stage at EPSO Concert
Saxophone Takes Center Stage at EPSO ConcertSaxophonist Kenneth Radnofsky  will be the featured guest soloist with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra on November 19 and 20, 7:30 pm at the Plaza Theatre. Radnofsky and the symphony, led by Sarah Ioannides, will perform David Amram’s “Ode to Lord Buckley” Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra . Radnofsky commissioned and premiered this work with the Portland Symphony in March 17, 1981. Mr. Radnofsky has appeared with leading orchestras and ensembles throughout the world including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, New World Symphony, and BBC concert Orchestra.
Composer David Amram will also be in El Paso for the performances. Mr. Amram is a pioneer player of jazz French horn and a virtuoso on piano. He has composed more than 100 orchestral and chamber music works, written many scores for Broadway Theater and film, including the classic scores for the films Splendor in The Grass and The Manchurian Candidate.
The November program includes Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Barber’s Music for a Scene from Shelley, and the third movement of Bloch’s America: An Epic Rhapsody – 1926 The Present –The Future featuring the “University Choirs” from the University of Texas at El Paso directed by Dr. William McMillan and Dr. Elisa Wilson.

There is a 10% active Military discount available and student tickets are available for $6 and $8 plus applicable fees.
The El Paso Symphony’s 2010-2011 Season is presented with the support of the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Opening Notes: Assistant Conductor Andres Moran will lead a discussion of the evening’s program 6:30 pm prior to both performances in the Philanthropy Theatre with special guests composer David Amram, saxophonist Kenneth Radnofsky and conductor Sarah Ioannides.
