Prince Planet and the Flying Jellyfish

More memories from my childhood... another Japanese cartoon that was dubbed into English and now has been lost to obscurity. Well, whether or not these episodes ever make it to the small screen again (or get turned into a crappy motion picture like Astro Boy did) -- you can enjoy them on the web.

Check it out! From Season One... Episode Five:

Prince Planet

Back in the days when we had UHF instead of cable... there were black and white cartoons from Japan that were dubbed into English... and they captivated our attention. Here is the pilot episode of one such classic... Prince Planet:

Building Six-Pack Abs the Bruce Lee Way...

Looking at some old photos of Bruce Lee reminds us of what perfect physical condition he is in. I have been looking into ways to improve my abs... what better way than the Bruce Lee method. Check out this video to see some of Bruce’s exercises:

Leave Britney... I mean... WHITNEY... Alone! Ple-e-ease!

Another pop diva is catching heck from her fans. CBS News reports that Whitney Houston has been trashed by audience members in Australia. Check out this CBS video below:

Why Being Skinny Can Be Deadly...

Read an article at The Associated Press about a Florida woman who is alive today because of her love handles.

Say what?

She was an innocent bystander who caught two bullets intended for someone else. The slugs lodged into her fat, saving her from permanent or fatal injury.

She now uses this as a rationale to gain even more weight.

The Creepiest Cartoon Ever Shown to Children

Clutch Cargo was mostly still drawings with human lips superimposed over the characters faces. Weird with a capital doubleyew. Check out this episode:

Dilbert

I was reminiscing with a co-worker about the brilliant Dilbert TV show. He didn't remember it. The show wasn’t around very long... despite its pedigree (including close connection to Seinfeld). Check out the pilot episode.

Simon’s Cat Discovers Snow

Thanks to my pal Dori for bringing this to my attention so that I can in turn bring it to yours. Funny how that works...

What is that they say about Genius and Insanity?

I have always admired Billy Corgan for his creative genius... both in the audio realm and the world of videos which seems to be disappearing as MTV becomes a reality TV network and no longer the trend setter it once was.

The above video shows Billy’s penchant for poetic genius wrapped in layers of audio imagery... with a visual front-end that paints more than a thousand words. Or, one might look at the finished product and wonder if perhaps Billy is crazy.

Like the proverbial fox perhaps?

Papa, Can You Hear Me?

One of the many great songs from the soundtrack of Barbra Streisand’s classic film Yentl. Check it out below:

Yentl: Deleted Scene

I got a kick out of this movie... written, produced and directed by Barbra Streisand. Check out this interview with the star... followed by a deleted scene:

Duck and Cover

CBS News is reporting that Iran is rapidly moving towards the ability to create nuclear warheads. They are enriching uranium to greater levels... presumably for generating electricity only. After all... it is more green to use nuclear energy than the gazillions of gallons of oil under that country’s sands.

But what if Mahmoud Akmagenocide decides to make a bomb... and what if he wants to use his bomb to nuke you? What should you do?

Back in the 1950’s... children were thought that you can be protected from the atomic bomb by ducking and covering. In the video below, you will learn that a wooden table or a coat you happen to be carrying is sufficient protection from a thermonuclear explosion:

So, if you are near an exploding atomic bomb... just duck and cover. Granted, you technically will need to duck faster than the speed of light... and you technically need to be covered with like six-feet of lead and concerte... so your mileage may vary.

The New Orleans Saints, Baby!

When I think of New Orleans... I think about breakfast at Mother’s... Lunch at Nola... Dinner at Brennan’s... and snacks all over. And as you walk home, stepping on the giant cockroaches and avoiding the crooks... you stop and you realize what the Saints did yesterday. And on that note... let us hear it from Satchmo himself!

R.I.P. Aleen Leslie

As a writer, I have to pay respect to the oldest living member of the Writers Guild of America, who departed this planet just a few days before her 102nd birthday.

Read about her at The Writers Guild of America Web Site.

Is he lying... or just delusional...

Granted... Southern California wildfires were fed by the drought... caused by a lack of rain in the Golden State. Look at the carnage covered by Reuters. Homes destroyed! Still... Albert Hammond’s song is catchy. Check it out in the video control below:

Check this bit out... a promo for David Letterman’s CBS Late Show... featuring his former friend slash arch-enemy slash friend slash who knows... and Oprah.

The Puppy Bowl

I remember a woman friend who referred to NFL football as “Men jumping on top of each other.” Perhaps those more estrogen-influenced would prefer this sporting event... The Puppy Bowl...

The Puppy Bowl: Kitty Half-Time Show

What can I say about this except a direct quote from Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law? Sigh...

Lack of Laughter Makes a BIGGER Difference

Yesterday, we saw an episode of HBO’s series The Wire with a soundtrack. A rough, violent scene played 100% differently when laughter (sweetening to industry insiders) was added. But let’s take a hilariously funny CBS series... Big Bang Theory, created by my patron saints Charles Michael Levine (a/k/a Chuck Lorre -- no relation to Peter) and Bill “Has WGA Benefits” Prady... and let’s remove the laugh track. As you will witness from the video below, the removal of the laugh track makes a hilarious scene absolutely creepy. Check it out:

Laughter Makes a Difference

One of my favorite shows on HBO was The Wire, a gritty urban police drama that was as real and in your face as it could be. But imagine what the Wire would be like if it had a laugh track. Check out the sweetened scene from The Wire.

Babies

Fun trailer for a movie about babies. Although the opening scene seemed a bit... well, I don’t know. It just seemed a bit weird. But watch it for yourself and make your own conclusion about this movie trailer... and then, leave us a comment about it. Or not.
